In the heart of the enchanting rolling fields, resided a young shepherd. His life was untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was to care for his herd of rams.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the wind across the solo tree on the peak were his constant companions. Day in day, watching over his responsibilities imbued in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

However, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for companionship. On one such day out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy devised a naughty scheme.

Narratives of wild beasts prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.

One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but found no wolf.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. However, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, more info Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
